G&B were appointed as principal contractor following a competitive tender process, for the removal of an unsafe boundary fence and the subsequent construction of a new reinforced concrete retaining wall structure at Trinity Academy School.
Following on from the retaining wall construction works G&B were also awarded the car park improvement works contract which provided new surfacing to the existing car park and a revised car park layout to maximise parking availability for staff and visitors.
All of the works were planned to coincide with school holidays so as to mitigate potential interference and nuisance with daily school activities and pupils attending the school. To enable the works to progress smoothly, a large degree of planning took place with school and council representatives both before and during the works.
The main retaining wall construction adjoined a local club car park and also abounded the main road and footpath so exclusion areas were required to maintain public safety at all times. The new reinforced retaining wall itself was over 3.5m in height in places due to the level difference to the adjoining land and involved extensive excavation, formwork, reinforcement and fencing activities.
